Garbage and waste are things that we accumulate on a daily basis. We are constantly throwing away leftover food, household items, and even clothes. But, most of the items that we throw away are being discarded improperly and can actually harm the earth.

In one lifetime of the average American, they will throw away 600 times the amount of his or her adult weight in garbage. Have you ever thought about reusing your garbage? There are so many ways to reuse everything you plan on throwing away. Let’s see what you can do.

First, if you drink a lot of milk or other beverages that come in large jugs, don’t throw the jugs away. You can use those jugs to water your plants, store items, and hold new drinks. Many people constantly reuse plastic water bottles, so this is pretty much the same concept, except a bit larger.

Next, if you love bacon, you’ll love this tip. When you cook bacon, you’re always left with bacon grease. That’s usually something people throw away. While it may not seem appealing to you, it can be useful to the birds that fly by your home. Take the grease and put in into a tuna or cat food can. Pop the can in the freezer and keep it in there until the grease is firm. Once it is, take it out and attach it to a tree near your home. Instantly, you have a free bird feeder!

If you find that caked-on food is a constant problem you deal with when doing your dishes, coffee grounds are the thing to help. Many times when we’re done making coffee in the morning, we just throw those ground right into the trash. The garbage service will come to pick up garbage and then send it off to who knows where. But you can help save the grounds from going where they shouldn’t be by reusing them in your kitchen. Keep a tin of the under your sink for your next dishwashing challenge.

When the day of the week comes for your garbage service to pick up your trash, reconsider what you’re throwing out. Your garbage service and the world will thank you.
